Entry Requirements

Entry at 13+ into Year 9 is on the basis of performance in an entrance exam and at interview.

Candidates may be registered at any time up to the end of January the year of entry.

Entrance Exam

All applicants will sit two 75 minute papers, in Mathematics and English (Comprehension and Essay).  A 13+ sample paper is available from the school or to download from the link above.  Candidates who do well in the written examination will be invited for interview.

The purpose of our entrance processes is not to make Bancroft’s more academically selective, but to help us make offers on a controlled basis to candidates we feel will benefit most from the education we can offer. We receive many more applications than we have places.  Some candidates may be placed on a waiting list following the examination and interview and may be offered places if vacancies arise.

Interviews

Successful candidates will be called back for interview following the examination; report from the candidate’s current school will be taken into account.  Offers for entry September 2012 will be sent out by post on 12 March 2012.

Interviews will be conducted by a team of Senior School staff, with candidates being interviewed in pairs.  The interviews will be primarily academic, and no special preparation is required, but it is useful if candidates can explain how they enjoy spending their time, and they can describe any particular achievements or interests.

Fee-paying places will be offered on the basis of candidates reaching a satisfactory standard in the written examinations, an interview and receipt of an up to date School Report.

Applications

To apply for a place in Year 9 starting in September 2012, candidates must complete and submit a registration form before 31 January 2012.

A single (non-returnable) registration fee of £60 is required, unless you apply for a Means Tested Scholarship only, when a single (non-returnable) registration fee of £20 is required.  Cheques should be made payable to Bancroft’s School.

A birth certificate (or a copy) must accompany all applications.  The birth certificate will be returned with the acknowledgement of entry.

Please make sure that you use the correct postage when returning your completed registration form.  Unfortunately, we have not received some forms because the wrong stamp has been used.  If the form is posted unfolded, you will need to use a large letter stamp.
