There are up to two means tested Francis Bancroft Scholarships available for applicants for 7+ entry. These are given to bright children whose parents might not otherwise be able to afford the fees for Bancroft's Prep and are awarded on the results of the 7+ entrance exam. Parents are required to submit a comprehensive and confidential statement of income and assets. This is reassessed on a yearly basis. The value of a Francis Bancroft Scholarship depends on a number of factors, including total income and the number of dependants; as a rough guide, for families earning under £21,500 a year a Francis Bancroft Scholarship might cover the entire school fee, while those earning £50,000 a year would not qualify . A Francis Bancroft Scholarship awarded at 7+ level will only cover a pupil's time at the Prep School.
Scholarships at 11+
Candidates who are not awarded a Scholarship may be offered a fee-paying place at the School. Those who have applied for scholarships only are not considered for fee-paying places, even if their performance was good enough to have earned them a place in the School.
Candidates who are offered a Scholarship must also fulfil the minimum entry requirements. These awards continue whilst the pupil maintains their educational potential and abides by the School rules and policies.
Academic Scholarships (including Drapers' Scholarships) each covering up to one quarter, one third or one half of the full school fee are awarded on the basis of academic distinction in the entrance exam and at interview, without reference to parental income. Competition for scholarships is high. There is no separate examination for those wishing to be considered for scholarships. School reports and interviews are a vital part of the selection process.
Means Tested Scholarships (including Francis Bancroft Scholarships and Foundation Scholarships) are designed to support pupils of high ability whose parents provide evidence that they might not otherwise be able to afford the full school fee. The value of an award depends on a number of factors, including total income and the number of dependent children. The assessment of the level of financial assistance is calculated on a graduated scale after parents/guardians have submitted a comprehensive confidential statement of their income and assets on a duly completed Financial Disclosure Form (FDF), together with any additional information, confirmations and supporting documentation which may be required. The maximum total income qualifying for financial assistance is £50,000 (gross). (Maximum total income increased by £2,000 for each additional dependent sibling under 16, living at the pupil’s registered address).
Means Tested Scholarships are awarded based on the results of the 11+ Entrance Examination, with school reports and interviews playing an important part.
A Financial Disclosure Form (FDF) will be sent to you separately if you have indicated on the Registration Form your interest for your child to be considered for a Means Tested Scholarship.
Up to two Music Scholarships, each worth either up to one quarter or one half of the school fee, together with free tuition on one instrument at School or a contribution towards tuition on one instrument outside School are also available are also offered to children with outstanding musical talent. Sixth Form Scholarships
The School awards Academic, Means Tested and Music Scholarships in the Sixth Form. We expect all potential scholars to have mainly A* predictions from their current school and a very positive reference. In assessing potential scholars, we look for academic leadership and intellectual curiosity. We try to distinguish the bright from the well drilled, the inspired from the effective and we aim to uncover flair. Considerable time is taken to ensure that the process is fair.
Candidates who are not awarded a Scholarship may be offered a fee-paying place at the School subject to gaining the minimum entry requirements of at least six A grades at GCSE.
Academic Scholarships each covering up to 50% (half) of the school fee are normally available to new applicants to the school on the basis of academic distinction in the entrance exam and at interview, without reference to parental income.
