UKMT Team Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Methusha Sakthipakan, Ram Aswani, Kavin Vijayakumar and Sai Johal, who were the winning team in the Essex Regional Final of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge.

Thirty teams from state and independent schools from all over Essex and north east London came to Bancroft's to take part in the challenge, the aim of which is to demonstrate that maths is fun .  Schools competing included Chigwell, Forest, Beal, Seven Kings High, Cranbrook College, Ilford CHS,  Chelmsford CHS and Southend HSG. Each school enters a team of four pupils in years 8 and 9.  All  pupils clearly enjoyed the event and got a real buzz from the various challenges involved.  Latymer finished in third place and the Forest team were placed second.  A Bancroft's 'B' team also did very well in the competition.  Prizes were presented by Chairman of the Governors, Mr Stephen Foakes, who commended all the teams on their obvious enthusiasm

The winning team  now goes on to represent Bancroft’s in the National Final in June, when they face the winners of the other Regional Challenge days.

Meanwhile, the youngest Bancroftian mathematicians performed very well in the Primary Maths Challenge.  Seven Prep 2s and one Prep 1 made it to the final of this year's competition and of these four received Bronze medals.  The medallists were: Mahnu Bhabutta, Ben Norris, Aarya Sajilal and Matthew Davies.  Well done to all the finalists!
