UKMT Team Maths Challenge

Following their success in the Regional (Essex) round, a team Bancroftians competed in the National Final of this year’s United Kingdom  Maths Trust’s Team Maths Challenge held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London.  The team of four - Methusha Sakthipakan, Ram Aswani, Kavin Vijayakumar and Sai Johal -  was among 80 teams from all over the UK who had made it to the final from a starting field of around 2500.   The competition was tough as they faced some of the brightest young mathematical brains in the country.   However, they performed extremely well to finish in 9th place; the winning school was Magdalen College School from Oxford.  Mrs Thompson said, "Our team not only put in an impressive mathematical performance, they were also excellent ambassadors for the school. "   Prizes at the National Final were presented by the eminent mathematician Professor Robin Wilson, who is a professor of Mathematics at the Open University and the son of the former Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
